Year after year, Climb for Cancer hears the stories and the passion that comes from those who participate in the Climb. There is a drive – a desire with each person who takes that step on the stairs to make their mark – to make a difference and to Climb for someone.
“Cancer doesn’t choose a team or jersey.”
CFL Fans Fight Cancer Team Captain Randy Newman proudly leads this team into their ninth year being a part of Climb for Cancer. It all began when Bryan Crawford contacted Randy and soon a team was formed including Jarrett Harris, the McGrath family and many more ever since. They climbed, they volunteered and they keep coming back.
“We love the event,” says Randy, “we started at the Chedoke Stairs, like so many, and were thrilled that the event grew and is now at Tim Hortons Field. It gives us a chance to see the stadium in a way you wouldn’t normally. Using the “End Zone” as the finish line – everyone should experience that for themselves. It feels like such a great accomplishment.”
CFL Fans Fight Cancer is exactly what the name suggests. They are a group of CFL fans stretching across Canada that try to make a difference each year in our local communities to fight cancer and support those living with this terrible disease that has touched so many of us.
Randy and his fellow teammates; Rob, James and Aaron have all returned for another year to climb again. They love that they will see more and more people that they know as well as meet new enthusiastic people. “Everyone cheers you on – even fellow climbers!” Adds Randy, “it is all for a good cause and for the greater good.”
CFL Fans Fight Cancer is a group that has always been a part of the Climb for Cancer. We are thrilled that you keep coming back year after year. After being a part of the early-day BBQ to coming with us to Tim Hortons Field, thank you Randy and your team for being such a committed group and stepping in front of cancer. Thank you for helping to move mountains.
